Our Culture: More Progressive Than Ever!

Our Culture: More Progressive Than Ever!

Black culture has always been rich and diverse, with a history dating back centuries. From music and dance to fashion and cuisine, it's impossible to overstate the impact that black culture has had on the world.

But while the contributions of black culture have always been significant, 2022 marks a turning point in the way that black culture is perceived and celebrated. Here are a few ways that black culture has become more progressive in recent years:

Representation in media: One of the most visible changes in recent years has been the increased representation of black culture in mainstream media. From movies like Black Panther and Get Out to TV shows like Insecure and Atlanta, black creators and stories are finally getting the attention and recognition they deserve.

Political power: The 2020 U.S. presidential election saw record turnout from black voters, and the election of Kamala Harris as the first black woman to hold the office of Vice President is a significant milestone. Embracing natural hair: For decades, black women have been pressured to conform to Eurocentric beauty standards that prioritize straight, silky hair. But in recent years, there has been a growing movement towards embracing natural hair textures and styles. From the popularity of the #naturalhair hashtag on social media to the increased visibility of black models and actresses with natural hair, the beauty industry is slowly but surely becoming more inclusive.

Celebrating black excellence: Finally, there is a growing movement towards celebrating black excellence in all its forms. From the success of black entrepreneurs and business owners to the achievements of black scientists and artists, there is a growing recognition that black excellence is not only possible but should be celebrated and uplifted.
